Beavers Secure Win in Final Home Game of 2022

Blackburn Women’s basketball won their last home game of the 2022 calendar year on Saturday. The Beavers hosted the Eagles of Emmaus Bible College and won the game by a final score of 78-48.

Early in the game, Emmaus took a quick lead of 5-0. After they extended their lead to 7-0, the Beavers finally woke up. They responded quickly and evened up the game just minutes later in the first quarter. The Beavers ended the first quarter with a 12-0 scoring run that secured them a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Beavers outscored the Eagles 22-11 in the second quarter, giving them a comfortable 44-24 lead at halftime.

During halftime, Blackburn College and the Women’s Basketball program gave special recognition to some very special guests. Former coach Jim Sexton, Dr. Angie Morenz, and former coach Matt Garrett each spoke on behalf of alumni teams that each made significant impacts in the continuous advancement and growth of the women’s basketball program. Blackburn College and current head coach Daniel Johnson thank everyone involved in the halftime event.

The Beavers outscored the Eagles 19-7 in the third quarter but were outscored by the Eagles 17-15 in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, the Beavers walked away with the win.

Aryanna Harris was just shy of her first double-double of the season, finishing with nine points and seven assists. She also collected five rebounds while adding three steals.

Mariah Hopson led the Beavers in points once again, finishing the game with 18. She had four rebounds and four assists as well in the game.

Other notables for the Beavers include Elizabeth Morris, who scored nine points, Juliette Adlawan, who tallied eight points, and Kaela Vincent, who collected five rebounds with six points.

The Beavers will not play in Dawes Gymnasium again until 2023. However, they will be seeing action over the holiday break. The Beavers will travel to Mount Mary University on Sunday, December 18th, to take on the Blue Angels. Tip off for the game is set for 5:00 p.m.
