Taylorville Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 19.
Taylorville Memorial Hospital hosted its first Hands-On Healthcare session. This session was designed to help high school and college students as well as adult community members learn more about nursing as a career.
Ten participants attended the free session held on September 12 at 6 p.m. in the Janice Hopper Auditorium at TMH. The attendees had an opportunity to learn about nursing in three different areas, giving them a well-rounded view of the nursing profession. In a visit to Acute Care, they learned about general nursing practice and the importance of working with our local physicians. When visiting the outpatient surgery department, the participants enjoyed donning surgical attire and learning about sterile techniques, positioning of patients and the state of the art equipment. In the emergency department, they were able to run a mock code and were able to see how an EZ-IO is inserted (an IV into the bone) in an emergency setting.
“We are so pleased with how well this first session went,” said Tracy Seaton, director of nursing at TMH. “We were able to engage members of the community of all ages and share with them a little about what nursing is like. We look forward to hosting more sessions in the future.”
