Former state school employee Keane paid in $40K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $840K in retirement

Former state school employee Joni Keane, who retired in January 2018, saved $39,600 toward a pension over 15 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Keane would collect as much as $840,103, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Central Reporter.

The projection assumes Keane received $17,658 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Keane will have already received $54,580 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
