Aviston School District 21 Board of Education Met Aug. 31.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order—7:00 pm 

a. Roll Call 

1. Members present: Thole, Voss, Eversgerd, Jansen, Toennies, Schulte,  Strubhart 

2. Members absent: None 

3. Non-Members present: See attached.  

2. New Business 

a. School Reopening Planning Review/Timeline 

1. Motion by Jansen, second by Schulte to enter closed session at 7:02  pm. 

2. All in favor. None opposed. None Absent.  

3. Return to Open Session at 7:21 pm.  

4. A review of the timeline of summer preparations for in-person and  remote learning was presented by Superintendent Hamil. The public was presented with a copy of the timeline highlighting the dates and frequency of changes in guidance from the state level along with the District’s response, revision of plans and notification to parents of the  changes in the days following new guidance.  

Five return to school plans from the August 19, 2020 regular Board of  Education meeting were also reviewed with the benefits and challenges  to each plan.  

b. Public comment and discussion 

1. Motion by Schulte, second by Voss to enter closed session at 8:52 pm.  

2. Return to Open Session at 9:11 pm.  

3. The Board decided to continue with the return to school plan adopted  on July 15, 2020, which consists of a full in-person start to school, with  IDPH and ISBE safety measures in place. The in-person return to school  will begin on September 8. 2020.  

3. Adjournment 

a. Motion by Jansen second by Voss to adjourn the August 31, 2020 special meeting at 9:22 pm. 

b. All in favor. None opposed. Eversgerd, Schulte, Strubhart Absent.
