Macoupin County Road and Bridge Committee met June 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

I. CALL TO ORDER

PRESENT: Wieseman, Quarton, Harding, Kiel, Long, Wiggins, Reinhart

ABSENT: Armour

II. 50/50 PETITIONS

The following 50/50 project petitions were presented:

North Palmyra #27                      7,800.00      3,900.00

Shaws Point #40                       15,000.00      7,500.00

The County’s obligation for the projects will be the “County Share” only.

Motion made by Quarton seconded by Harding to approve the petitions and recommend passage by the full board.

RESULT: RECOMMENDED [UNANIMOUS]

SECONDER: Bill Harding, Member

AYES: Wieseman, Quarton, Harding, Kiel, Long, Wiggins

III. NEW BUSINESS

1. Speed limit ordinance for Nine Mile Road near Virden

The Committee considered an ordinance establishing a speed zone on a portion of the Nine Mile Road in accordance with the speed study conducted in May.

The following motion was made:

Motion made by Kiel, seconded by Harding to recommend the full Board approve an ordinance establishing a 45-mph speed zone on the Nine Mile Road from the Burlington Northern Railroad crossing west 0.5 mile.

RESULT: MOTION TO RECOMMEND [UNANIMOUS]

MOVER: Bernie Kiel, Member

SECONDER: Bill Harding, Member

AYES: Wieseman, Quarton, Harding, Kiel, Long, Wiggins

ABSENT: Armour

IV. DISCUSSION

Reinhart reported that the rumble strips have been cut into Litchfield Road. Also, the Committee discussed the capital bill that was passed. MFT rates increased from $0.19/gallon to $38/gallon. This should result in a significant increase in MFT funds.
