Macoupin County Board Public Safety Committee met March 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

I. CALL TO ORDER

PRESENT: Kiel, Dragovich, Barr, Adden (Remote), Ibberson, Payne, Duncan, Kahl, Boehler

ABSENT: Starr

II. AGENDA ITEMS

1. Hiring a Full Time Deputy - DCFS

Kahl said that DCFS asked if he would be interested in having a full time deputy at that office who wouldn't be doing the security but would be assigned to them to go out with the field agents or case workers. The deputy would not be working the cases, but would be security for the field agents or case workers. This deputy would also provide security in Montgomery County

Kahl said he had calculated the amount that they would charge based off of pay, overtime, car, vests, cameras, insurance, all the benefits. The total he came up with was $116,000 with a 4% increase for a four year They would start in either May or June. The state would cut checks the 15th of every month. He had entered the contract so this was more informational.

2. Discuss Sheriff Department Grants

Kahl said they received a grant for the body cameras of roughly $21,000. He was 99% sure they would get it, but he wasn't sure when. The initial fee is $30,000 but there would be annual fees going forward. This grant would cover the annual fees for next year according to Kahl.

Kahl also said there was a grant through IDOT for a hire back detail. Starting in July, there would be several details worked for about $5,000. They would work at 4 hours at a time off duty to handle some traffic stops and DUI stops. There would be about $30,000 available next fiscal year for these type of stops,

3. Purchase New Hot Water Heater for Animal Control Building

Boehler said that the bottom is rusting out of the hot water heater at the Animal Control building. She had gotten a bid of $1,475 which could be paid from her American Rescue Plan funds.

Motion by Ibberson, seconded by Barr to recommend the purchase.

RESULT: MOTION TO RECOMMEND [UNANIMOUS]

4. Purchase Commercial Washing Machine and Dryer

Boehler said she had initially requested doing a commercial washing machines and dryer but the company they had purchased from said the current machines would work. They are not working currently and the company can't do the work to repair them. She was wanting to use commercial washing machine and dryer that could do 5 and 4 loads at a time respectively. It would be $19,940 for both machines from Hermes Commercial Laundry Equipment from Bloomington. This would be paid for from their American Rescue Plan funds.

Motion by Ibberson, seconded by Barr to recommend the purchase.

5. Update on MCAC

Boehler said that they were charging the new updated fees which was an update because of a question from the committee.
