City of Centralia Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee met July 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Jones, Garrett, Agee, Lawson, Young, Graham

CRC – Allan

City – Harting, Harris

Youth – Favors

Absent: Pracht

1) Public Participation: None

Graham called the meeting to order @ 12:03 pm, after roll call was completed.

2) Approval of Minutes: There were 2 sets of minutes that needed approval, the minutes from February and from May. Motion to approve the February minutes was made by Agee and seconded by Young. Motion to approve the May minutes was made by Lawson and seconded by Graham. Both motions carried unanimously.

3) Treasurer’s Report: Harting stated that there were 2 treasurer’s reports that needed approval, one from May and one from June. Harting reported that for the May report there was only interest going into the account for that month and there was an expenditure of $1,460.38 to Kaco’s for the sign and post at Laura Leake Park. It is an 8x8 steel post. It was then reported by Harting that the report for June shows only interest going into the account and no expenditures. Motion the approve the minutes for May & June was made by Young and seconded by Lawson. Motion carried unanimously.

4) Monthly Reports:

I) CRD Report

a. Allan reported that the MCYL rec ball games will be wrapping up at home this week. The 5th/6th grade boys and girls ended up being seeded #2 in their post season tournaments with home games the first round. The 3rd/4th grade girls ended up being seeded #2 & #4 in their post season tournaments, also with home game the first round. And the 3rd/4th grade boys ended up being seeded #8 in their post season tournament and will play in Trenton.

b. Allan reported that outdoor soccer registration has started and is open until Aug. 10th. Estimated season start date of Aug. 31st, and all games will be played on Saturdays at Rotary Park.

c. Flag Football will also be offered this year and will start in Aug. and games will also be played on Saturdays at rotary park.

d. The Jr. High School baseball and softball season starts in Aug. and both teams have 8 home games. Games for softball will start on Aug. 20th and baseball on Aug. 27th. We will be hosting the state tournament again this year, but dates haven’t been sent out yet.

e. Allan reported that the Rotary Club of Centralia has agreed to pay for 4 new doors to be installed at Rotary Park to replace 4 rusted out concession stand and bathroom doors. Allan also reported that the concession stand has a downspout on the gutter that needs to be replaced.

II) Youth Center Reports –

a. Favors reported that the YC is in its 3rd week of summer camp. They have 100 kids registered and average around 66 per day. They will be having a final cookout for the summer on Friday, July 19th from 1-6 pm.

b. Favors also reported that the YC will be having a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new addition of their building sometime soon, and when the date it set the public will be notified.

III) City Report – Harting & Harris brought pictures of the dedication sign that has been installed at Laura Leake Park. Harris reported that the July 4th events all went fine at the various parks around town and that currently they are just doing general maintenance on all the parks. Jones asked if there was an update on the reinforcement plan for the fences around the tennis courts at Fairview Park. Harris informed Jones that he asked the city officials about it and hasn’t gotten any response.

5) Old Business –

a. Jones asked about the Juneteenth programs that happened at various locations throughout the city and the city and Youth Center reported that the Juneteenth programs all went off well and they got a lot of compliments and positive feedback.

6) New Business –

a. Harting reported that the Fall Bash date hasn’t been set yet, but she will have details when it is, and wanted to remind the board that we will need volunteers to help cookout that day. Harting also asked if since the Juneteenth celebration isn’t being hosted by just Laura Leake Park, so should be do another type of event at Laura Leak Park? There was discussion about having a cookout with hot dogs on Oct. 9th at Laura Leak Park. Harting asked Lawson, since he has had regular events at Laura Leake Park, to let her know about how many hot dogs he would anticipate needing for the event.

7) Adjournment – Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jones and seconded by Garrett. Next meeting scheduled for Aug. 8th, same time and place.
