FOIA Request to Marion County Il Clerk & Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Central Reporter have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Marion County Il Clerk & Elections Division.
Our request seeks access to public records that detail the list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for information including the candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of each candidate; and all contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We aim to disseminate this information to the public as part of our commitment to keeping citizens informed about their local government's activities.
We continue to assert our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional engaged in gathering and reporting news. We await response from the Marion County Il Clerk & Elections Division regarding this request.
