Diabetes support group at Salem Township Hospital to discuss carbohydrate counting

Salem Township Hospital will host a Diabetes Support & Nutrition Education Group meeting on Thursday, August 28, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The session will take place in the Linda Mobley Community Room at the hospital’s main location, 1201 Ricker Drive in Salem, Illinois.

The focus of this meeting is “Carbohydrate Counting & Understanding the Glycemic Index.” Topics include defining carbohydrates and the glycemic index, portion size recommendations, methods for simple carbohydrate counting, and how to read nutrition facts labels.

The event is free and open to people of all ages. Light snacks suitable for individuals with diabetes will be available.
