Analysis: 64 percent of Litchfield students fail annual tests

Elm 03

Academic results data released recently reveals 36 percent of Litchfield Middle School students are considered on track for the next grade level, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The end-of-year tests known as the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, are administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards. A composite score combines the results of the subject tests.

Composite scores for Litchfield Middle School show about 29 percent met expectations and 6 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category passed the tests and are considered prepared for the next grade level, college or work.

Another 29 percent approached expectations, 23 percent partially met expectations and 13 percent did not meet expectations. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Litchfield Middle School, which enrolled 306 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 34 percent of students passed the test and 66 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
