Report: Salem spent $10,802 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Salem Community High School District 600 is up 8 percent from five years ago, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Marion County school district spent $9,973 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $10,802 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 748 to 705.

Salem's spending in 2016-17 was 17 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
