Report: Southwestern spent $8,768 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Southwestern Community Unit School District 9 is up 3 percent from five years ago, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Macoupin County school district spent $8,529 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $8,768 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 1602 to 1461.

Southwestern's spending in 2016-17 was 32 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
