Smithboro Fire Protection District responded to 28 calls in 2017 - 154.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Smithboro included 26 fires - four structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 13 other fires.

In all, the department saw $94,000 in fire loss - or about $3,615 per fire.

The department also received two false calls.

The Smithboro Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $52,096 in 2017.
