Brighton Betsey Ann Fire Protection District responded to 56 calls in 2017 - 24.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Brighton Betsey Ann included 49 fires - 21 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 19 other fires.

In all, the department saw $227,900 in fire loss - or about $4,651 per fire.

The department also received seven false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.
