Staunton Fire Protection District responded to 43 calls in 2017 - 34.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Staunton included 25 fires - seven structure fires, three vehicle fires and 15 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,959,700 in fire loss - or about $118,388 per fire.

The department also received 16 false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Staunton Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $342,946 in 2017.
