Hillsboro FD responds to 25 fires in 2017

Hillsboro Fire Department responded to 41 calls in 2017 - 192.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hillsboro included 25 fires - six structure fires, four vehicle fires and 15 other fires.

In all, the department saw $1,058,150 in fire loss - or about $42,326 per fire.

The department also received 16 false calls, including three malicious calls and 13 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian non-fire injuries.

The Hillsboro Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has five active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $61,136 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $12,227 for every fire in 2016.
