Republican Illinois Senate candidate Seth McMillan wants voters to weigh in on their Second Amendment rights in November’s general election.

McMillan, who is running for the 48th District seat, and Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Raymond) are pushing for a non-binding referendum on the ballot for Macoupin, Montgomery, and Christian counties. The advisory question asks voters if the general assembly should pass gun control laws that restrict a citizen’s ability to own or possess firearms.

“Voters in Macoupin, Montgomery, and Christian counties: support your 2nd amendment [sic] rights in November," McMillan recently posted on Facebook. "No more gun control on law-abiding citizens."

Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill0

McMillan is running against incumbent Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill). He is a small business owner who has campaigned on lowering taxes, which has garnered the support of several donors around the district. McMillan received more campaign contributions from individuals than Manar during the last quarter.

The 48th District includes Christian, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery and Sangamon counties.
