Greenville College issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.
Greenville University alumni Trey Brockman ’17 and Anna Brannon ’17 contributed their creative juices to an upcoming YouTube series with serious star power behind it.
The Misadventures of Psyche and Me stars Madison Hu of popular Disney shows Bizaardvark and Best Friends Whenever, Amber Midthunder of TV series Legion, and lead actors Kemma Filby and Noah Odegaard. It includes a cameo from singer, comedian and YouTube personality GloZell Green. The plot follows protagonist Asher through ordinary situations with his inner mind, Psyche, narrating what he really thinks of the people and situations around him.
Trey, a musician and composer who earned his G.U. degree in audio engineering, composed the short intro theme song for the new show. Anna, a digital media and Spanish double-major, designed the series logo and poster advertisements.
Though they tackled different aspects of the project, Trey and Anna share much in common regarding what they learned and how they advise college students to pursue a career in the arts.

Neither Trey nor Anna nailed this assignment on the first try. They both intentionally presented the Psyche & Me team with several options and used feedback to proceed.
“As I started the process of creating this little theme [song], I wrote and recorded three different versions, all of which were musically pretty different from one another,” Trey recalls. “I sent each version to the production team in order to identify a solid direction.”
Anna, too, created sample images for the logo and poster and let the team decide which spoke to the tone of the show.
Leave Your Comfort Zone
Trey and Anna each found themselves in unfamiliar creative territory.
“This project definitely pushed me,” Anna says. “The comic book design style that inspired the logo is not one that I have had much experience with.” She reframed this problem as an “opportunity” and stretched her skills, learning much in the process.
Trey agrees. “It was both a joy and a challenge to do this new style of project... The biggest challenge was definitely attempting to fit all of our ideas and lyrics into a five-second clip—but I loved it.”
Working outside their comfort zone made success that much sweeter when the artists presented their finished product. Both alumni recommend stretching your skills for maximum career success.
Start Early and Build Your Network
When asked about ways students might prepare for careers, Trey and Anna both recommend starting early.
“Say a lot of ‘yes,’” Anna urges. “Be friends with everyone. You never know where a job might come from.” She and Trey landed their respective spots on the Psyche and Me team through mutual friend and lead actress Kemma Filby.
Also, Anna says, just ask. “Ask people if you can do work for free. Find professionals in your field and ask to shadow them, pick their brain[s] and get critiqued. And when you’re good enough, ask businesses if they’ll hire you.”
Trey started his freelance portfolio long before he crossed the graduation stage. “I was blessed as an undergrad at Greenville to begin building a client base for freelance audio and composition work, so I got to practice that a lot as a student.”
The “Day Job”
Trey will continue his duties as graduate assistant to the music department at Greenville University this year, in addition to other client work and his own personal projects produced and recorded under the moniker “TREY.” He spent summer 2018 on tour to support his music.
Anna works as a graphic designer for DigitalArtz in Highland, Illinois, and accepts freelance work in photography and videography. Recent work includes documentary videography in Guatemala for Students International and a promotional video for Greenville’s own Marcoot Jersey Creamery.
