Taylorville Community Unit School District 3 students suspended 183 times in a single school year

Taylorville Community Unit School District 3 reported 183 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 183 students during the year. That equates to 7.2 percent of the 2,559 students enrolled.

Of the 132 in-school suspensions, 108 were given to boys and 24 were given to girls, including 48 elementary or middle schoolers and 84 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 110 incidents. There were 17 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 101 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 51 out-of-school suspensions, including 37 elementary or middle schoolers and 14 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 42 incidents. There were five incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 39 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
