Mount Olive Community Unit School District 5 students suspended 61 times in a single school year

Mount Olive Community Unit School District 5 reported 61 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 61 students during the year. That equates to 12.9 percent of the 474 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 21 incidents. For 21 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 40 out-of-school suspensions, 30 were given to boys and 10 were given to girls, including 18 elementary or middle schoolers and 22 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 25 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence without physical injury. For 14 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
