II. Agenda Items

1. County Jail Air Conditioner Bid Opening

Matt Loyet presented the bids for the new County Jail Air Conditioner, which was damaged when Ameren was resetting the power in parts of Carlinville. The bids came in lower than the expected $200,000. Not included in the bids was the work that might have to be done on the chilled water piping in the Jail, which is not in the best shape. The engineer will be giving the County a letter stating the condition of the piping, as it is 30 years old. There is a $5,000 contingency in the bids, in case any piping need to be replaced in the installation. The new air conditioner will be moved from the old location, making it more efficient. Sheriff Kahl stated that his department will be putting in a concrete pad and fence for the new unit. All three companies which submitted bids are able to begin work immediately. Response time and the quality of the machines were discussed.

Motion by Wieseman, seconded by Petrak to recommend the low bid by Henson Robinson of $119,000 for installation of the New County Jail Air Conditioner to the Macoupin County Board. Voice vote:
