Scores10

About 42 percent of Hillsboro Junior High School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2018 and 58 percent of students failed, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Hillsboro Junior High School English language scores, about 37 percent met expectations and 5 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 30 percent approached expectations, while 17 percent partially met expectations and 12 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Hillsboro Junior High School, which enrolled 341 students in 2018, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only six percent 'exceeded' expectations.
