Analysis: Salem administrators rank 672nd in state for average pay

Administrators in Salem Community High School District 600 earn an average of $86,058 per year, ranking 672nd out of 864 districts in the state, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2018 average is 14.1% higher than in 2014 and 7.9% lower than in 2009. District administrators make 19.8% less than the state average of $107,279.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Marion County school district enrolled 694 students in 2017-18. There is an average of 188 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 181 to 1.
