HSHS ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL BREESE: HSHS St. Joseph’s Women and Infants Center receives re-designation for specialized Perinatal Care

Healthnews

HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Breese issued the following announcement on Feb. 26.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital is pleased to announce that it has received Level II Perinatal Care Facility re-designation in affiliation with the Southern Illinois Perinatal Network and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Serving as a Level II Perinatal Care facility indicates that the hospital is prepared with the expertise and resources to meet the medical needs for infants as young as 32 weeks or 3.3 pounds. In addition, full-term newborns with breathing difficulties, jaundice or other medical conditions that require an intermediate level of care can also be safely treated because this higher level of care is available.

“We are pleased to have received re-designation as a Level II Perinatal facility,” said Serra Morton, RN, MSN, Director of Women and Infants Center. “This demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of infants requiring extra care, right here in our community.”

Morton complimented the dedicated clinical staff across the continuum of care that were integral in achieving this designation as well as the hospital’s recent “A” rating in the Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety Score.

St. Joseph’s Women and Infants Center partners with SSM Health Cardinal Glennon to offer specialized pediatric care 24/7 for infants needing extra care in the Intermediate Care Nursery.

Additionally, when health needs extend an infant’s stay in the advanced care nursery, private rooms with a recliner, sleeper sofa, and refrigerator for breast milk storage are available to allow families to bond with their baby and participate in his or her care. Plus, a dedicated bathroom, with a shower, allows family members the convenience of immediate access and the ability to maximize the amount of time with their new infant.
