The price of local government in 2017: Clinton County

The Clinton County budget was $23.91 million for its 2017 fiscal year.

That's an increase of 16.5 percent from 2016, when the county spent $20.52 million.

Clinton County has a population of 37,614.

Since 2001, the Clinton County budget has grown by 39.5 percent, from $17.14 million. The county population has grown 10.8 percent over the same period, from 33,944.

Salaries accounted for 27.7 percent of county spending in 2017. Clinton County property taxpayers paid $6.62 million for one full-time employee and one part-time employee.

In 2001, the county had 95 full-time employees and 80 part-time employees, and spent $5.42 million.
