UNION COUNTY STATE'S ATTORNEY: Grand Chain Woman Sentenced to Prison for Identity Theft and Money Laundering

Union County State's Attorney issued the following announcement on April 30.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Melissa Renee Carmack (DOB: 5/12/1986) of Grand Chain, Illinois has been sentenced to a total of six (6) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to two (2) counts of Identity Theft (Class 3 Felonies) and one (1) count of Money Laundering (Class 3 Felony). Carmack will also serve a one (1) year Mandatory Supervised Release. Carmack was sentenced in three separate cases. An investigation by Union County Sheriff’s Deputies found that Carmack sold stolen property to an Anna man in November 2017. Two other investigations by Anna Police showed that Carmack used stolen credit and debit cards in August and September 2018.
