Former state university employee Kreps paid in $61K to pension fund, could collect $609K in retirement

Former state university employee David Kreps, who retired in June 2017, saved $60,526 toward a pension over 4 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Kreps would collect as much as $608,641, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Central Reporter.

The projection assumes Kreps received $12,793 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Kreps will have already received $67,919 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
