Village of Vernon Hills President and Board of Trustees met March 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

I. Village President Byrne called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.

II. Roll call indicated the following Board Members were present: President Byrne, Trustees Schultz, Brown, Marquardt, Koch, Oppenheim. Trustee Takaoka was absent. A quorum was established.

Also present were: Village Manager Fleischhauer, Assistant Village Manager Petrillo, Building Commissioner Atkinson, Public Works Director Brown, Chief Kreis, Commander Williams, Finance Director Fairbairn, Larry Nakrin, Lauterbach & Amen, Attorney Hunt, Brad Faber and Recording Secretary Koehl.

III. The Pledge of Allegiance was given.

1. FY 2017-18 Municipal Compliance Report for Police Pension Fund - Finance Director Fairbairn gave a summary of the report. Director Fairbairn and Larry Nakrin gave comparisons to other Municipalities.

1. Summary Resolution 2019-009 Special Event at Hawthorn Mall – Building Commissioner Atkinson gave summary of a 5K Run and Easter Event

President Byrne called for a motion to approve the Omnibus Vote Agenda Items A-L.

VII. Unfinished/Additional Business 

Trustee Koch asked where we are at in the attorney hiring process and when it would come to the Board for consideration. President Byrne stated for the record that he hasn't appointed anyone yet and it would be put on the agenda after the election.

VIII. New Business/Communications 

Trustee Schultz spoke about the story he saw regarding Orland Park having a high number of auto break ins. He asked Chief Kreis to give information to residents on how to protect their property. Chief Kreis gave some tips on how to avoid auto thefts from happening,

Trustee Schultz reminded residents to utilize all space in garages for their vehicles. We as a citizens need to be diligent in protecting our property by not giving criminals easy opportunities.

Trustee Koch advised that District 73 will be having a student art show at Aspen Library on Thursday, March 14th from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Trustee Koch attended the Southlake Advisory Meeting recently and stated that College of Lake County, Southlake Campus has educational programs other than College classes, that can benefit the public,

Trustee Schultz spoke about the Melanaphy Study and recent development projects presented to the Village. Trustee Shultz asked when we would be getting the results of the Melanaphy Study. Village Manager Fleischhauer advised that a draft of the study has been received and the final report should be presented to the Board at a Village Board meeting in April after the Budget Hearings.

Trustee Schultz would like Village Manager Fleischhauer to make contact with Linclonshire's Village Manager, to discuss and get ideas of what their plans are for the development of the property located at Milwaukee Avenue and Route 22, due to Lincolnshire not being part of our Chamber of Commerce.

Trustee Schultz also noted that Bingo is March 7th at 6:30PM. There will be one more Bingo event in April. American Legion Post 1247 hosts Bingo at the Village Municipal Golf Course the first Thursday at 6:30PM during the Winter months October through April.

IX. Recess/Adjournment 

Motion by Trustee Schultz second by Trustee Marquardt to adjourn the Board Meeting and move to the Committee of the Whole.
