Bartelso School District 57 Board met April 17.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

President, Tanya Kampwerth called the regular meeting of the Board of Education to order at 7:01 p.m. Present to roll call were Board Members Tanya Kampwerth, Jody Grawe, Jill Spihlmann, Jaime Becker, Jill Daugherty, Bob Gerdes and Mark Toennies. Also present were Superintendent, Tom Siegler and Recording Secretary, Sharon Schulte.

Teacher representatives at the meeting were Colleen Kunz and Lynn Tonnies. Eric Varel and Tanya Loepker, incoming Board Members were also present.

Also in attendance were parents, Jeff Daugherty, Michelle Toennies, Cassy Shelton, Elisha Behrman, Corey Behrman, Jessie Winkeler, Bridget Toennies and Christie Vandeloo. The following parents expressed to the Board their concerns with the school changing the Gifted Math Program, Christie Vandeloo, Elisha Behrman, Michelle Toennies, Cassy Shelton and Jeff Daugherty. After hearing their concerns and thanking them for addressing the Board, the regular meeting continued.

Superintendent Siegler informed the Board of the students that attended the Math contest held at Central on April 3rd. He also informed them of the students that participated in the April 15th Music Festival. He stated that KSED Governing Board calculation changes will increase out bill by about $12,000.

The building will be power washed over the Spring break. Mr. Siegler shared the bids for the masonry/tuck pointing that needs to be done. The Board will make a decision next month as to who they will go with. Superintendent, Siegler reminded the Board of the special meeting on April 24th, to seat the new Board members and elect officers. He also gave a list of various end of year things coming up before the end of the school year.

Motion by Jill Spihlmann, seconded by Bob Gerdes that the consent agenda of the Bartelso Elementary School District #57 Board of Education be approved as presented; Jody Grawe, yea; Jill Spihlmann, yea; Jaime Becker, yea; Jill Daugherty, yea; Bob Gerdes, yea; Mark Toennies, yea; Tanya Kampwerth, yea; 7 yeas; 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Jaime Becker, seconded by Jill Daugherty to approve the Prevailing Wage Resolution; Jill Daugherty, yea; Bob Gerdes, yea; Mark Toennies, yea; Tanya Kampwerth, yea; Jody Grawe, yea; Jill Spihlmann, yea; Jaime Becker, yea; 7 yeas; 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Jill Spihlmann, seconded by Bob Gerdes to approve rehiring Crystal Kahre and Brooklyn Simonton as paraprofessionals for FY20; Bob Gerdes, yea; Mark Toennies, yea; Tanya Kampwerth, yea; Jody Grawe, yea; Jill Spihlmann, yea; Jamie Becker, yea; Jill Daugherty, yea; 7 yeas; 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Mark Toennies, seconded by Jaime Becker to approve the 2019-2020 school calendar as presented; Mark Toennies, yea; Tanya Kampwerth, yea; Jody Grawe, yea; Jill Spihlmann, yea; Jaime Becker, yea; Jill Daugherty, yea; Bob Gerdes, yea; 7 yeas; 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Mark Toennies, seconded by to approve the resignation of Amber Sussen as 5th grade homeroom and Middle School Math Teacher; Tanya Kampwerth, yea; Jody Grawe, yea; Jill Spihlmann, yea; Jaime Becker, yea; Jill Daugherty, yea; Bob Gerdes, yea; Mark Toennies, yea; 7 yeas; 0 nays. Motion carried.

Mr. Siegler asked the Board to consider the dates of times of the FY20 Board meetings, currently we meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. He also asked them to think about the current fees and next month they will decide if they want to increase any of the fees for FY20. Superintendent, Siegler said he was contacted by a Mater Dei Spanish teacher wanting to teach Spanish to the 7th and 8th grade students for $2600 a semester. After some discussion about hiring a summer custodian again, they Board agreed to offer it to Austin Ratajczyk again this summer.

Mr. Siegler presented Jody Grawe and Tanya Kampwerth a plaque for their years of service to the Board. Mrs. Grawe and Mrs. Kampwerth will be completing their term on April 24, 2019 at the special meeting when the new officers with be seated.

The Board entered into executive session at 8:15 p.m.

Present in executive session were Board Members Jody Grawe, Jill Spihlmann, Jaime Becker, Jill Daugherty, Bob Gerdes, Mark Toennies and Tanya Kampwerth. Also present was Superintendent, Siegler and incoming Board members Eric Varel and Tanya Loepker.

Motion by Mark Toennies, seconded by Jody Grawe to come out of executive session; Jill Spihlmann, yea; Jaime Becker, yea; Jill Daugherty, yea; Bob Gerdes, yea; Mark Toennies, yea; Tanya Kampwerth, yea; Jody Grawe, yea; 7 yeas; 0 nays. Motion carried.

The Board returned to open session at 9:11 p.m.

Motion by Jody Grawe, seconded by Jaime Becker to adjourn the meeting; Motion carried 7-0.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:12 p.m.
