The data shows that 14 men and three women were released in the Salem zip code. Of the parolees, one is a veteran, and the median age was 37. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man convicted of a property crime in 2017, and the oldest was a 60-year-old man convicted of a sex crime in 2010.
The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Ryan Becker. He was convicted of a sex crime in 2008, when he was 22 years old. He is now 33.
Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
