Albers Elementary School District #63 Board of Education met May 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Rickhoff called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Huegen, present; Kloeckner, present; Richter, present; Rickhoff, present; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, present.

VISITORS

Visitors present at the meeting include Chyrisse Horstmann representing the Albers staff. Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben were also present.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Huegen made the motion to approve the agenda. Athmer made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

BOOSTER CLUB

 Field Day was successful. Students and staff enjoyed the day.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 SIP – There is nothing at this time.

 BUILDING & GROUNDS – There is nothing at this time.

 PARENT ADVISORY BOARD – There is nothing at this time.

 TECHNOLOGY – There is nothing at this time.

 BULLYING – There is nothing at this time.

AGENDA CONSENT ITEMS

Lucas made the motion to approve the consent items on the agenda. Minutes were approved; executive session minutes sealed; financial report; bills $ 18,767.82. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

OLD BUSINESS

 LIFE SAFETY UPDATE – Richter made the motion to approve the asbestos removal floor project for $ 13,195.00. Athmer made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye.

 SUMMMER CLEANING – The board approved that Mr. Toeben hire 3 part-time people to assist with summer cleaning. Candidates will be approved at the June meeting. Mr. Toeben will manage the schedules and employees.

 LIGHTING PROJECT – Litteken Electric started last Friday in the gym with replacement of the lights.

NEW BUSINESS

 BUS CONTRACT 2019-2020 – Huegen made the motion to approve the regular route contract with Zurliene Bus Service in the amount of $ 70,500.00. Richter made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye.

 BANK ACCOUNT PROTECTION – Mr. Toeben and Janel Zurliene will review the program and share more information at the next meeting.

 PREVAILING WAGE RESOLUTION – Athmer made the motion to approve the Prevailing Wage Resolution. Richter made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

 EMPLOYMENT – Wuebbels made the motion to post the 4th grade position. Richter made the second motion. Voice vote shows all in favor. Mr. Toeben would like to have a candidate for approval at the June meeting.

 SET FEES 2019-2020 – Huegen made the motion to set the fees for the 2019-2020 as the following: student lunch, $2.50; adult lunch, $3.00; milk $0.40; registration $65.00; book $25.00; Chromebook, grades 5-8 $50.00. Kloeckner made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

 APPROVE HAZARDOUS ROUTES 2019-2020 – Kloeckner made the motion to approve the hazardous transportation routes for the 2019-2020 school year. Athmer made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

 2019-2020 HANBOOK REVISIONS – The first reading was held. A discussion was held regarding the time frames of the dress code regarding shorts.

 SET BUDGET AMENDMENT HEARING – Athmer made the motion to set the budget amendment hearing for June 25, 2019 at 6:45 PM. Wuebbels made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

 CHROMEBOOKS – Wuebbels made the motion to approve the purchase of 25 Chromebooks at the cost of $ 5,875.50. Richter made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye.

STAFF COMPUTERS – Richter made the motion to purchase 23 computers for staff members at a rate of $ 577.00 per computer. Huegen made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Toeben shared information.

 Community Link sent ta thank you note for our fundraising efforts for World Down Syndrome day.

 The property tax freeze is “on hold” at this time.

 The graduated tax income tax is on the ballot as well as school consolidation.

 The end of the school year and graduation ceremonies went well.

 Summer school starts the second week in June.

 August 16, 2019 is the first day for students for the 2019-2020 school year.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Kloeckner made the motion to enter executive session at 8:08 PM to discuss personnel. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Huegen, present; Kloeckner, present; Richter, present; Rickhoff, present; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, present.

Richter made the motion to exit executive session at 8:31 PM. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, absent; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.
