Taylorville Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 27.
Taylorville Memorial Hospital and SIU Medicine will hold a free seminar on the opioid epidemic at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 9 in the Janice Hopper Auditorium at TMH.
The 90-minute event is titled “Opioid Epidemic: How We Got Here and Where To Go Now.” The seminar will trace phases of opioid epidemics in the United States and around the world with a focus on the current epidemic, highlight the role the medical community plays in the current epidemic, discuss future directions for combating opioid abuse, how to integrate treatment into the primary care model as well as support for recovery in a rural setting.
The guest speakers are Dr. Kari Wolf, associate professor and chair of the department of psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Dr. Ashley Howard, assistant professor of the department of family and community medicine at Southern Illinois University. A question-and-answer session will be held after their presentation.
The event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. Parking is available in front of the hospital. Please enter through the Emergency Department entrance. Light refreshments will be served.
