HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Breese issued the following announcement on Oct. 17.
Recently, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese awarded Melissa Pellizzaro, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of The DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Melissa received the award for going above and beyond to help ensure her patient was calm and comfortable during her labor and delivery.
“Melissa’s ability to explain everything so clearly in a calm tone of voice was extremely comforting for a concerned, scared, impatient first-time mom of twins with high blood pressure,” shared the patient. “Melissa is amazing, has such a large heart for strangers and has incredible skills and deserves all the best, plus some.”
“I am so proud of Melissa, said Serra Morton, director of women and infants. Melissa truly lives by our core values, Respect, Care, Competence and Joy. She is a caring and compassionate nurse. We are blessed to have her at St. Joseph’s. ”
Twenty-four other nurses were recognized for being nominated for the DAISY Award:
Allyssa Wood, Ashleigh Hemker, Chelsea Ripperda, Diane Hempen, Geralyn Fehrmann, Hannah Schlemer, Jan Hustedde, Jean Thole, Jody VanKleef, Katy Kosydor, Kristi Oulvey, Lynn Broeckling, Marla Mensing, Mary Fitzgerald, Mona Henrichs, Nancy Beckemeyer, Niki Tebbe, Patricia Buscher, Ruth Rainey, Sara Kampwerth, Sheila Aarseth, Shirley Spaeth, Tammy Boyer and Zoe Swarm.
Additionally, just as a daisy cannot survive without a bee, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by support colleagues. As such, Joe Morgan of the environmental services department recently received St. Joseph’s Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award.
“It is difficult to pick only one day when Joe was an extraordinary colleague,” shared the colleague who nominated Joe. “He is always smiling and concerned about others. Visitors were looking for a patient room, and he walked them to the room instead of pointing directions. Joe is always there to offer help, and he truly lives the mission.”
“Joe is very deserving of this recognition, shared Trisa Beam, director of environmental services. “He is always joyful and caring in all of his interactions and takes pride in his service at the hospital.”
Additional colleagues recognized for BEE nominations include: Jeralyn Becker, Jessica Campbell, Mary Hemker, Dennis Hempen, Cheryl Morr and Robert Tucker.
