HSHS Holy Family Hospital issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.

HSHS Holy Family Hospital is planning a Farm Rescue and Safety Day event for November 2. This two-part event will begin with a free safety education seminar from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a farm rescue demonstration at 1 p.m.

The education seminar will be hosted in the Fair Oaks room at Holy Family Hospital. Education will be provided by the Fire Training Institute from the University of Illinois. Topics covered will include tractor accidents/rollover, auger entrapments, manure pit emergencies, anhydrous ammonia emergencies and grain bin safety. To attend the education seminar, please RSVP to Tim at Tim.Logue@hshs.org as seats are limited for this portion of the event. Firemen who are attending the education seminar should bring their turnout gear. Lunch will also be included for those attending the education seminar.

The farm rescue demonstration will be held at the Bond County Fair Grounds in Greenville. The demonstration will take place in the arena, and the community is invited to watch from the grandstands as local EMS demonstrate what would happen during a farm rescue event.

“We are excited to offer this event to the community, shared Tim Logue, EMS facilitator for Holy Family Hospital. Providing emergency services to a large farming community means we have to be prepared for farm-related accidents. Many times, these accidents are serious and involve heavy equipment. The more practice and education there is available will only make us more prepared in the event we are called to a farming accident.”

This event is sponsored by Brownstown Fire Dept., Bond County EMS, Bond County Fairgrounds, the Fire Training Institute from the University of Illinois, Greenville Fire Dept., Keyesport Fire Dept., Mulberry Grove FPD, Pocahontas-Old Ripley FPD and Smithboro Fire Dept.
