West Washington County Community Unit School District #10 Board of Education met Nov. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The November 21, 2019, meeting of the West Washington County Unit Board of Education was called to Order at 7:30pm by President Kurt Heckert. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. Members present were Mrs. Cathy Cook, Mr. Daryl Frederking, Mr. Neal Hackstadt, Mr. Paul Jansen, Mr. Dennis Lintker, and Mr. Brett Roe. Members absent: None.

The minutes of the Regular Meeting and Closed Meeting held on October 24, 2019, were presented. It was regularly moved by Lintker, seconded by Hackstadt, and carried on a voice vote with all members present voting “aye” that: “The minutes of the October 24, 2019, Regular Meeting and Closed Meeting be approved”.

The bills for the month were presented by Mr. Scott Fuhrhop, as well as Wire Transfer Authorization/Inter Fund Loan. It was regularly moved by Roe, seconded by Frederking, and carried on a roll call vote that: “The bills for the month be approved as presented”. Members voting “aye”: Cook, Frederking, Hackstadt, Heckert, Jansen, Lintker, Roe. Members voting “nay”: None.

There was one Wire Transfer Authorization that needed to be approved. It was regularly moved by Cook, seconded by Jansen, and carried on a roll call vote that: “A Wire Transfer Authorization in the amount of $1,526,976.34 be approved for the payoff of 2010 Series Bonds”. Members voting “aye”: Cook, Frederking, Hackstadt, Heckert, Jansen, Lintker, Roe. Members voting “nay”: None.

Mr. Scott Fuhrhop gave a review of the Anticipated Levy for next year. He has increased the Levy by 9%. The CPI is 1.9%, which in the maximum increase allowed under PTELL for our district. The reason for requesting a 9% increase in the levy is to ensure that new property is captured within the anticipated levy.

It was regularly moved by Cook, seconded by Hackstadt, and carried on a voice vote with all members voting “aye” that: “The Tax Levy Hearing shall be set for December 19, 2019, at 7:15pm”.

According to Illinois State Law, which was passed on February 19, 2019, the minimum wage increase will go from $8.25 to $9.25. This will be effective beginning January 1, 2020. At this time, the only employees that this will affect are substitute aides, who are currently paid $9.00 per hour. It was regularly moved by Lintker, seconded by Jansen, and carried on a voice vote with all members present voting “aye” that: “The Board approves the State Mandated Minimum Wage Increase”.

It was regularly moved by Lintker, seconded by Frederking, and carried on a voice vote with all members present voting “aye” that: “The Senior Trip to Washington DC and New York City (04-26-20 to 05-01-20) shall be approved”.

During the Principals Report, Mr. Keith Senior and Mr. Leon Spinka reviewed the School Report Card. Okawviile Grade School received an Exemplary rating, and Okawville Jr/Sr High School received a Commendable rating.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Scott Fuhrhop advised that he has prepared a 3 year financial analysis of the School District. Mr. Furhrhop gave a summary of the finance projections, and he indicated that we are a very solid district at this time.

In addition, Mr. Fuhrhop discussed the first Powerhouse reading and the results of the first test that was completed in November.

It was regularly moved by Hackstadt, seconded by Frederking, and carried on a roll call vote that: “The Board enter closed Sessions for the purpose of Suspensions and Personnel, the Employment, Placement, and Compensation thereof, and Student Legal Implications”. Members voting “aye”: Cook, Frederking, Hackstadt, Heckert, Jansen, Lintker, Roe. Members voting “nay”: None.

Closed Session began at 8:23pm.

Closed Session ended at 8:50pm.

It was regularly moved by Roe, seconded by Jansen, and carried on a voice vote with all members present voting “aye” that: “The Board Meeting be adjourned”.

The Board Meeting was adjourned at 8:51pm.
