As medical protective gear continues to run short with the rise of COVID-19 cases, volunteers are making masks to help supplement the high demand.
According to The Journal-News, 600 members from a social media group based in Montgomery County are stepping up to make surgical masks for health care professionals.
The organized effort started after Ali Luckett, a Hillsboro woman, started the Facebook group, reaching out to nursing friends to see if masks were needed.
The group quickly reached more than 350 members in a matter of 24 hours and continued to grow from there.
Anyone who wants to be involved is welcome — mask-making skills are not a requirement. Volunteers to purchase supplies, wash and iron the fabric, and organize the finished products are all important and necessary parts of the process.
There are a number of drop-off locations throughout the county, including Korner Store in Schram City; Rehab Edge in Hillsboro; Mac’s Diner in Witt; or with group members in Nokomis, Coffeen, Farmersville and Raymond.
