The South Central Community Unit School District #401 Board of Education held a regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the South Central Middle School located at 503 South Madison Street in Kinmundy, IL. President Mike Vandeveer called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Also present were Principals Sara Rose and Jamie VanScyoc, Superintendent Kerry Herdes and Ginny Keen, Board Clerk.
A motion was made by Ann Blomberg and seconded by Dena Hoffmann to approve the minutes of the Budget Hearing held on June 17, 2020 and the Regular Board Meeting held on June 17, 2020 as presented. Roll call vote was as follows:

The IASB Press Policy updates dated June 2020 was presented for the first reading. It addresses several issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A remote learning plan must be adopted by the Board and must be on display.
A motion was made by Rob Jones and seconded by Dan Hiestand to approve the first reading of the June 2020 PRESS school board policy revisions for South Central CUSD #401 as recommended by the Illinois Association of School Boards. Roll call vote was as follows:

Additional funds are needed in the Operations & Maintenance Fund to cover total costs for the unit office building and finishing costs. Request a transfer of funds from Education Fund to O&M Fund for the amount of $200,000.00.

Principal Sara Rose – South Central Elementary School
We continue to work through school opening plans despite constant changes due to Covid19. Logistics for social distancing in the classrooms and serving lunches are continuously being reviewed. Mrs. Rose commended Mr. Herdes for his vigilance for staying on top of all the changes.
Principal Jamie VanScyoc – South Central High School
The main focus also is working out plans to re-open school, having students follow social distancing rules and how to best serve lunches.

Superintendent Kerry Herdes – District Report
Mr. Herdes went over the details of the new unit office building installation, utility setup and finishing touches. He discussed the current plans to open school which covered busing issues, temperature checks, social distancing rules and keeping lunch breaks under 50 people. Teachers’ institute and planning days will be August 17, 18 and 19th. The first day of student attendance will be August 20th. The state has been grouped into regions; Kinmundy and Farina are in different regions. The Marion County Health Dept. has been involved with school planning. Registration plans are still being finalized.
