Madison County Board member, and former republican House candidate, Don Moore, is still defending his proposed resolution in support of local law enforcement.
“I wrote the resolution to say something good about police, plain and simple,” Moore told the South Central Reporter after the Resolution Declaring Madison County’s Support of our Police by Stating ‘Blue Lives Matter” was sent back to the Public Safety Committee for further discussion.
“I will continue to push for this,” said Moore, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with coming out and saying we support the police.”

Moore said he came up with the idea after a period of watching riots and protests break out across the country earlier this year in criticism of law enforcement and after an unnamed board member blasted departments as being crippled by “systematic racism.”
In moving to send the resolution back to committee for further discussion board members decided not entertain question or comments on the issue, which critics have blasted as politically motivated and divisive.
Even in pushing the measure, Moore has tried to be flexible, revising the original language in the proposal in hopes of making it more palatable to a larger number of Madison County residents.
“I’ve had some great conversations and learned a lot from both sides,” said Moore.
“But at the end of the day, people have to be willing to take a stand for what we know is right," said Moore.
As it is, Moore said he’s convinced law enforcement officers receive too much criticism, with all their most questionable actions being overly put on display while all their deeds and heroic efforts are routinely overlooked as just part of the territory.
“I don’t see what’s wrong with saying we support the police because they’re always there to do the job for us,” said Moore, “I inherently find it disagreeable to me that I cannot say Blue Lives Matter without receiving emails."
