Albers School District 63 Board of Education met Aug. 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

President Rickhoff called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Huegen, present; Kloeckner, present; Richter, present; Rickhoff, present; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, present. Everyone in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS

Casey Thole was present as well as Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Athmer made the motion to approve the agenda. Huegen made the second motion. Roll call vote: Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye.

BOOSTER CLUB

• The golf scramble is set for Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Okawville.

• There may a larger fundraiser in January 2021.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

• SIP – There is nothing at this time.

• BUILDING & GROUNDS – Mr. Toeben is working on the memorial benches placement for future donations.

• PARENT ADVISORY BOARD – There is nothing at this time.

• TECHNOLOGY – A tech meeting will be scheduled. We are waiting on the arrival of the Chromebooks.

• BULLYING – There is nothing at this time.

• SPORTS CO-OP/FRIENDS OF THE COUGARS – There is nothing at this time.

• SAFETY – There is nothing at this time.

• CAT TEAM – There is nothing at this time.

• There is nothing at this time.

AGENDA CONSENT ITEMS

Huegen made the motion to approve the July regular meeting minutes; approve the bills $ 33,031.56 and approve the financial report. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote: Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

OLD BUSINESS

• MAINTAINANCE GRANT / SUMMER PROJECTS – The punch list meeting is scheduled for September 3, 2020. The manufacturers of all the roof materials will be scheduled to discuss warranties. It was noted how dissatisfied the school is with this contractor and the lack of job completion. Glandt will have the parking lot oiled and chipped, lines repainted and the sidewalk cleaned.

• COVID – 19 UPDATES & PROCEDURES – The Superintendents in Clinton County have been meeting to review plans. The Clinton County Health Department has been working with the schools regarding current cases and opening of school. Plans are scheduled to return to school on Monday, August 31, 2020. Mr. Toeben will communicate weekly with parents about cases and attendance. A survey will be sent to the primary grades to review devices and internet services.

• PRESS POLICIES – Kloeckner made the motion to approve the second reading. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• EMPLOYMENT – Athmer made the motion to increase Janel Zurliene’s salary at the same rate as the other non-certified staff; set Substitute Coordinator to $95 per month; Board Recording Secretary at $80 per month. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye.

• EMPLOYMENT – Wuebbels made the motion to hire Joe Glynn as the Head Teacher. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye.

• EMPLOYMENT – Huegen made the motion to hire Nancy Rakers as the Cross-Country Coach. Richter made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye.

• EMPLOYMENT – All other positions were tabled.

• The fire alarm was sounding at 7:33 PM. The meeting took a recess from 7:33 PM until 8:04 PM while the fire departments cleared the building.

NEW BUSINESS

• SET BUDGET HEARING – Huegen made the motion to set the budget hearing for 6:45 PM on September 22, 2020. Athmer made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• GRIMEBUSTERS – Winterbottom made the motion to contract services with Grimebusters at the same rate as last year. Athmer made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye.

• SUBSTITUTE CERTIFIED – Athmer made the motion to raise the certified teacher sub rate to $90 per day. Huegen made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye.

• SUBSTITUTE NON-CERTIFIED - Athmer made the motion to raise the non-certified sub rate to $77 per day. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye.

• SUBSTITUTE KITCHEN – Kloeckner made the motion to set the sub rate for the kitchen assistant to $35 per day. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Huegen, aye; Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

• RESIGNATION – Wuebbels made the motion to approve resignation of Brooke Tebbe. Richter made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• EMPLOYMENT – Huegen made the motion to hire Lisa Eversgerd as a paraprofessional. Kloeckner made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Kloeckner, aye; Richter, aye; Rickhoff, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Huegen, aye.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Toeben shared information regarding items on the agenda.

• School board elections are in April 2021. The terms of Rickhoff, Kloeckner, Huegen, Wuebbels will be expiring. 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There is nothing at this time.

ADJOURNMENT
