State Rep. Blaine Wilhour is encouraging graduating high school students to apply for scholarships. His announcement shows that there are several types of scholarships available in the community.
His website, repwilhour.com, said BCMW Community Services is hosting a grant program wherein students who come from low-income households can apply for a scholarship worth $1,000.
Students are reminded that there are only five of those scholarships available, so anyone who is interested should apply immediately.
BCMW’s criteria for being qualified for its scholarship programs are:
· Income
· Grade Point Average (GPA)
· Three letters of recommendation
· A career goal statement (100 to 200 words)
· Interview with the Scholarship Committee
· Completed Community Services Block Grant STARS Intake
Wilhour said that there are other scholarship programs available. Wilhour asks students to check with local service organizations such as the American Legion, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Kiwanis and the Odd Fellows.
