City of Centralia Parks and Recreation Committee Met March 11

City of Centralia Parks and Recreation Committee Met March 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Agee, Garrett, Lawson, and Graham

City Mayor Williams     CRC Ex Director Germann

CRC – Allen                 City Community Dev. Director Harting 

Absent: Spann, Young and Border

Public Participation: None

Approval of Minutes: Agee made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and Garrett seconded. Motion carried with unanimously.

Treasurers Report: No report was available.

Ongoing Business:

1. Fairview Pool- Gayla reported that the City Manager has received the report and expressed concern over the expense of repair. Will report more on this at the next meeting. Sonya requested to let her know as soon as possible due to the shortage of lifeguards, she might have to offer another class to have enough to staff.

2. Goals/Responsibilities- Herb requested that we add Youth Center to the line-item number #3.

3. Juneteenth- The event is scheduled for June 19th. It will be determined closer to time if the event will be allowed to proceed due to COVID restrictions. Gayla and Calvin will meet with the Community Group who provides other activities and report back to this Committee.

4. CRC report- Scott submitted an informational page on the current stats on registration for Baseball, Softball and Tball. Registration will continue for the month of March. Also on the report is the current tournaments that have been scheduled with GSA and Super Sonics. Scott reported that he is still waiting to hear back from 618 who has 4-5 possible baseball teams. 618 has requested having Fairview Baseball field as their home diamond.

As stated in the past the fields need dirt and sand added. Dave Agee reported that he is assisting Wamac in updating their fields.

Herb stated that he would like to see all the fields being utilized by teams.

5. Youth Center

a. Tutoring program still on going.

b. Been having Basketball tournaments.

c. No wrestling this year due to COVID

d. Food give away is still on going.

New Business:

1. Pickleball - Gayla presented to the committee an update on the possibility of having Pickleball courts painted on the east Tennis court at Fairview Park. Jack Graham made the motion to have the City paint 2 Pickleball courts on the east tennis court and Rickey Garrett seconded the motion. The motion unanimously carried.

Adjournment:

Garrett made the motion to adjourn, and Lawson seconded the motion. The motion carried.
