Central City School District 133 Board met April 27

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Central City School District #133 Board of Education met in regular session at 6: 00 pm in the school library.

President, Rick Starr called the meeting to order. The following members were present: Rick Starr, Scott Stevenson, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Larry Ferguson. Jordan Renth was absent.

Visitors recognized included Tracey Starr, Tender Skabinski, Karlie Patten and Susan Bozett.

A motion was made by Scott Stevenson and seconded by Larry Ferguson to approve the canvass results of the April 6, 2021 election. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Scott Stevenson, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Larry Ferguson. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Scott Stevenson and seconded by Larry Ferguson to adjourn the meeting of the Board of Education sine die. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Scott Stevenson, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Larry Ferguson. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

The new board of education convened and Karlie Patten was seated.

On a roll call vote the following members were present: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No members were absent.

The new Board of Education was sworn in and recited the oath.

A motion was made by Blake Dukes and seconded by Karlie Patten to appoint Amanda Ponyi to the school board for a 2-year term. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Blake Dukes and seconded by Karlie Patten to appoint Liz Jack to the school board for a 4-year term. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Blake Dukes to appoint Superintendent, Tim Branon as the pro-tem president to accept nominations for the organization of the board. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Blake Dukes and seconded by Steve Rupe to appoint Rick Starr as the Board president. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. Rick Starr abstained. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Tom Altenbaumer and seconded by Blake Dukes to nominate Steve Rupe as the Vice-President. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. Steve Rupe abstained. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Karlie Patten to appoint Blake Dukes as the Board Secretary. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer and Karlie Patten. Blake Dukes abstained. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Blake Dukes at accept and approve all policies, agreements and contracts of the previous Board of Education. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Karlie Patten and seconded by Blake Dukes to establish the dates, times and locations of the future board meetings. The third Tuesday of each month, at 6:00 in the school library. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Blake Dukes to approve the minutes of the regular board meeting held on March 17, 2021. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Blake Dukes to approve the bills and payroll as presented. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Karlie Patten to approve the treasurer’s report as presented. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Blake Dukes to appoint Rick Starr to the KSED governing board. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Karlie Patten and seconded by Blake Dukes to accept the Title I school wide plan as presented. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Karlie Patten to allow the Superintendent to seek bids for bread, milk, cleaning services, laundry and trash services. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Karlie Patten to approve the date change of the June meeting to June 22, 2021 due to state requirements for budget display. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Tom Altenbaumer to adopt the prevailing wage ordinance for Marion County. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made at 6:37 pm by Karlie Patten and seconded by Steve Rupe to enter into closed session. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made at 7:11 by Karlie Patten and seconded by Steve Rupe to exit closed session and resume the regular meeting. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Tom Altenbaumer and seconded by Karlie Patten to grant tenure to Cassie Stove. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Tom Altenbaumer and seconded by Karlie Patten to grant tenure to Nichole Sandahl. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Tom Altenbaumer and seconded by Karlie Patten to grant tenure to Aaron “Jay” Branon. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Tom Altenbaumer and seconded by Karlie Patten to accept the 4-year retirement proposal from Julie Beasley. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Rupe and seconded by Blake Dukes to accept the resignation of Lindsey Huge effective at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer, Blake Dukes and Karlie Patten. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Karlie Patten and seconded by Steve Rupe to award bonuses in the amount of $1,000 to all employees and staff. On a roll call vote the following members voted aye: Rick Starr, Steve Rupe, Tom Altenbaumer and Karlie Patten. Blake Dukes abstained. No member voted nay. Motion carried.

Superintendent Tim Branon gave the superintendent report. He thanked Mrs. Erin Amason for her hard work and dedication to the track team. He also congratulated Mike Sloat on a successful scholar bowl season. Graduation will be held on May 20th and coronation will be held on May 8th at Rock Church. Mr. Branon described what the current ESSER II funding is and has been spent on, and what he intends to spend the ESSER II money on. He stated that the school architect will be visiting with Mr. Branon to discuss options for adding on, our internal water supplies and their replacement, a whole building generator and repairing/replacing the elementary bathrooms.
