City of Greenville City Council met Sept. 30.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Call to Order: The special meeting of the Greenville City Council was called to order at 6:37 p.m. by Mayor George Barber.
Roll Call:
Present: Mayor George Barber, Councilman Bill Carpenter, Councilman Iván Estévez, and Councilman Kyle Littlefield.
Absent: Councilwoman Lisa Stephens
Also Present: Interim City Manager and City Clerk Sue Ann Nelson The pledge of allegiance to the United States flag was recited.
Town Hall Meeting: City Tourism Director Jes Adam hosted the Town Hall meeting. Mayor Barber and Councilmembers Littlefield, Carpenter and Estévez presented their ideas and perspective for the future of Greenville.
Public Comments: Members of the audience were allowed to provide public comments.
∙ John Gillard talked about what all of the business downtown and the need for TIF and incentives for new businesses.
∙ Lee Coakley spoke about why he chose to live in Greenville and the need to build up the I-70 corridor.
∙ Cheralee Volken expressed the need for investors and to assist small businesses needing capital.
∙ Heather Edwards spoke about the desire to see the Downtown grow and assistance from the City.
∙ Suzanne Davis, President of Greenville University talked about how the University is “all in” with the City of Greenville. They have purchased properties on the Downtown Square to revitalize and bring businesses to the Downtown area.
∙ Amrish Patel talked about wanting greater collaboration between businesses. The more businesses know about what is going on, the more cross-promotion can occur.
∙ Breck Nelson spoke about his business developments on the square and his desire to see the Downtown grow and prosper.
Adjourn: At 8:05 p.m., moved by Carpenter, seconded by Estévez, to adjourn to Special Council meeting.
