At least three school districts in the state of Illinois are mask-optional and will remain so for the near future.
Attorney Thomas DeVore took to Facebook to advocate schools go mask-optional.
“Are your public school districts aware that my three public school district clients have been operating all school year with a mask recommended policy without any consequences from ISBE? And they will continue to operate for the rest of this school year with a mask optional policy,” DeVore said in a Facebook post.
DeVore's client school districts include Beecher City, Cowden-Herrick and Red Hill.
“None of the scare tactics have come to fruition. What's your school district's excuse? Just remember there was a time when I offered the same service to your school district for free and they didn't take me up on it!!!” DeVore said.
Red Hill was sanctioned by the Illinois State Board of Education for going mask optional.
All three school districts banded together to sue ISBE and the state for enforcing Gov. Pritzker’s mask mandate.
DeVore is similarly representing teachers in Peoria over a fight to have masks made optional in their school district.
DeVore has filed lawsuits on behalf of parents against 145 school districts seeking to do away with mask requirements and other COVID protocols.
He is also running for the Appellate Court of the 5th Appellate District.
