Albers Elementary School District #63 Board of Education met Jan. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present @ 7:08 PM; Richter, present @ 7:08 PM; Winterbottom, present. Everyone in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS

Christelle Bretz and Lisa Eversgerd were present. Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben were also present.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no comment.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Athmer made the motion to approve the agenda. Boeckmann made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

BOOSTER CLUB

• New officers include: Amy Haselhorst & Lori Catanzaro, Co-Presidents; Kelly Macias & Leigha Steuart, Co-Vice Presidents; Janine Albers-Hubert, Treasurer; Megan Porterfield, Secretary.

• A SCRIP order will be offered monthly. Contact Christelle Bretz for more information.

• A Spaghetti Dinner is being organized for Friday, February 18, 2022. Please use the SignUp Genius link to volunteer.

• There will be a Butter Braids fundraiser in March.

• A Golf Tournament is being planned for June 18, 2022.

COMMITTEE REPORTS & ASSIGNMENTS

• BUILDING & GROUNDS, Winterbottom, Boeckmann, Jung – The committee met and reviewed building repairs and improvements. It was suggested to being researching projects and gather estimates.

• TECHNOLOGY, Athmer and Wuebbels – There is nothing at this time.

• SPORTS CO-OP/FRIENDS OF THE COUGARS, Richter, Boeckmann – There is nothing at this time.

• SAFETY – There is nothing at this time.

• CAT TEAM – There is nothing at this time.

• FINANCE – Huegen, Wuebbels, Boeckmann

• KASKASKIA COLLEGE COMMITTEE – Huegen, Richter, Athmer – President George Evans would like to host an 8th grade night on February 9, 2022 in the cafeteria. It would be for the 8th grade students and their parents.

• SIP – Mrs. Zurliene is working on the self-care SIP workshop for January 3, 2022.

• PARENT ADVISORY BOARD – There is nothing at this time.

• BULLYING – There is nothing at this time.

TEACHER REPORTS

• There is nothing at this time.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

Athmer made the motion to approve the December 15th E-learning and regular meeting minutes, approve and seal the executive session minutes from December 15, 2021; approve the financial report; approve the bills in the amount of $ 33,759.64. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

OLD BUSINESS

• COVID – 19 UPDATES & PROCEDURES – Mr. Toeben shared information on current students that are exposed, quarantined or positive. Everyone was given the opportunity to share their concerns regarding the mask policies and use of the masks at school. The Test to Stay program is being used with students. There is no update to the Make It Local group. Athmer made the motion to follow our Local Control plan and not follow the Executive Order. There was no second. Mr. Toeben will continue to review the plan with Athmer and Boeckmann. The weekly report will be emailed via Teacherease.

• CARES ACT FUNDING – This item was tabled.

• ASBESTOS/BOILER REMOVAL – This item was tabled. We are awaiting more information on the grant approval.

• KINDERGARTEN TEACHER 2022-2023 – This item was tabled.

• FIRST GRADE TEACHER 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR – This item was tabled. Mr. Toeben also mentioned that the school may need to employ additional staff for the 2022-2023 school year.

• PHONE SYSTEM – Three bids were shared. This item was tabled.

• ENGAGEMENT SURVEY – Huegen and Winterbottom are preparing the survey and will hopefully have it sent within two weeks.

• EMPLOYMENT – All other positions were tabled.

NEW BUSINESS

• SUMMER POSITIONS – Athmer made the motion to advertise for two part-time positions. Boeckmann made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• REVIEW EXECUTIVE SESSION MINUTES JULY 2021 – DECEMBER 2021 – Athmer made the motion to keep them sealed. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• DESTROY AUDIO TAPES PRIOR TO JULY 2020 – Athmer made the motion to destroy tapes prior to July 2020. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• E-RATE – This item was tabled.

• ATHLETIC DIRECTOR 2022-2023 – Athmer made the motion to post this position. Jung made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Toeben shared information regarding items on the agenda.

• The Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee is February 6, 2022 for students in Grades 5-8.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Winterbottom made a motion to enter into the executive session at 8:02 PM. Athmer made the second motion. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, present; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, present. Mr. Toeben was also present.

Athmer made a motion to exit the executive session at 8:21 PM. Boeckmann made the second motion. Roll call shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

ADJOURNMENT
