Analysis: Salem administrators rank 559th in state for average pay

Administrators in Salem Community High School District 600 earn an average of $94,427 per year, ranking 559th out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 16.3 percent higher than in 2016 and 12 percent higher than in 2011. District administrators make 15.2 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Salem School District in Marion County enrolled 642 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 172 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
