Macoupin County Public Safety Committee met Feb. 1
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
I. CALL TO ORDER
PRESENT: Dragovich, Kiel, Acord, Ibberson, Starr, Wiggins, Schmidt, Duncan, Walden
ABSENT: Payne
II. AGENDA ITEMS
1. Animal Control Issues
Walden said that things aren't going too well so far at the shelter. They've had extra animals dumped there that aren't well. She hired a vet tech but it didn't work out. She currently has a full time animal control officer and one part time employee. She still is looking for an additional part time employee. She has also had the full time animal control employee who they discussed at the December meeting had quit and been replaced.
Schmidt discussed a complaint that had come in from a former employee. Schmidt felt like the employee just wasn't a good fit. The employee had sent in a list of complaints that Schmidt and Starr had investigated the complaints and felt like some where embellishments and some didn't seem based in fact. Schmidt had discussed the issues with the employee's mother. Schmidt was concerned about Facebook posts being made which he didn't feel like was productive. After some more investigating, he had spoke with her earlier this afternoon and he and Starr would be meeting with her Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to discuss what she wants to discuss.
Schmidt also discussed a letter from the Macoupin Veterinary Clinic. There was a breakout of a virus among some of the cats in the animal shelter. They felt that the cats who had or been exposed to the virus be euphonize and then deep clean the shelter. He felt this was the only way to clean this place up so it was necessary step at this point and would be following the doctors orders.
Motion by Acord, seconded by Ibberson
RESULT: APPROVED [UNANIMOUS]
MOVER: Matthew Acord, Member SECONDER: Jim Ibberson, Member AYES: Dragovich, Kiel, Acord, Ibberson, Starr, Wiggins ABSENT: Payne |
Schmidt said that Elaine felt she needed a third part time employee who would be a back up animal control officer. Elaine doesn't go out on calls and Beth, the other full time employee, can't go out on calls 24/7. This would be a third part time employee. There was also a discussion about the fact that the animal control budget was significantly over budget and the fund was basically broke.
Schmidt said they would need to figure it out budget wise.
Motion by Starr, seconded by Kiel to recommend hiring a third part time employee at animal control.
