Albers Elementary School District #63 Board of Education met Feb. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, present; Winterbottom, present. Everyone in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS

Julia Ritter and Rachel Beckemeyer were present. Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben were also present.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no comment.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Athmer made the motion to approve the agenda. Boeckmann made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

BOOSTER CLUB

• New officers include: Amy Haselhorst & Lori Catanzaro, Co-Presidents; Kelly Macias & Leigha Steuart, Co-Vice Presidents; Janine Albers-Hubert, Treasurer; Megan Porterfield, Secretary.

• A SCRIP order will be offered monthly. Contact Christelle Bretz for more information.

• A Spaghetti Dinner was Friday, February 18, 2022.

• Dine out for the Cougars this month will be at Pete’s.

• The next meeting will be March 15, 2022.

• There will be a Butter Braids fundraiser in March.

• A Golf Tournament is being planned for June 18, 2022.

• BUILDING & GROUNDS, Winterbottom, Boeckmann, Jung – The new walk in freezer is compete an being used.

• TECHNOLOGY, Athmer and Wuebbels – There is nothing at this time.

• SPORTS CO-OP/FRIENDS OF THE COUGARS, Richter, Boeckmann – There is nothing at this time.

• SAFETY – There is nothing at this time.

• CAT TEAM – There is nothing at this time.

• FINANCE – Huegen, Wuebbels, Boeckmann - There is nothing at this time.

• KASKASKIA COLLEGE COMMITTEE – Huegen, Richter, Athmer – There is nothing at this time.

• SIP – There is nothing at this time.

• PARENT ADVISORY BOARD – There is nothing at this time.

• BULLYING – There is nothing at this time.

• FOTC – The Fish Fry fundraiser begins this Wednesday. The Sports banquet is schedule for May 12, 2022.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

Athmer made the motion to approve the January 26, 2022 regular meeting minutes, approve and seal the executive session minutes from January 26, 2022; special meeting minutes from February 1, 2022; approve the financial report; approve the bills in the amount of $ 68,297.17. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

OLD BUSINESS

• COVID – 19 UPDATES & PROCEDURES – Mr. Toeben shared information on current students that are exposed, quarantined or positive and the changing State guidelines.

• CARES ACT FUNDING – This item was tabled.

• ASBESTOS/BOILER REMOVAL – Athmer made the motion to have Lunsford submit paperwork. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• KINDERGARTEN TEACHER 2022-2023 – Jung made the motion to hire Taylor Kampwerth as the 2022-2023 Kindergarten teacher. Boeckmann made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye. Athmer made the motion to post the Preschool teacher position. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• FIRST GRADE TEACHER 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR – Wuebbels made the motion to hire Angela Wellen as the 1st grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye.

• PHONE SYSTEM – Three bids were shared. This item was tabled.

• ENGAGEMENT SURVEY – Huegen sent the survey on February 17 with a return date on or before March 4, 2022.

• E-RATE – Athmer made the motion to have Clearwave provide fiber internet starting July 1, 2022. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye.

• EMPLOYMENT – Athmer made the motion to hire Brian Barth as the Golf Coach. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye.

• EMPLOYMENT - Athmer made the motion to have Travis Jung as the Assistant Golf Coach. Richter made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, abstain; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye.

• ATHLETIC DIRECTOR 2022-2023 – This item was tabled.

• EMPLOYMENT – All other positions were tabled.

NEW BUSINESS

• STAFF APPRECIATION – This item was tabled.

• 2022-2023 CALENDAR – The first reading was held.

• GRADUATION – This item was tabled.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Toeben shared information regarding items on the agenda.

• 8th grade night for bowling is March 1, 2022.

• Golf ant rack are preparing for their seasons.

• IAR testing will be conducted in April.

• NAEP testing will be rescheduled due to the snow day.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Athmer made a motion to enter into the executive session at 7:05 PM. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, present; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, present. Mr. Toeben was also present.

Jung made a motion to exit the executive session at 7:23 PM. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

ADJOURNMENT
