Millikin University Athletics welcomes Andrew Coon to the athletic department staff as the Director of Tennis. Coon spent the past two seasons at the helm of the Illinois College men's and women's tennis programs, serving as the interim head coach in 2020-21 before being promoted to the head coaching position for the 2021-22 season.
Coon has been involved in tennis for a majority of his life, competing in junior and adult leagues and tournaments. A St. Louis native, Coon attended Ladue Horton Watkins High School and was a member of two Missouri state championship teams and two runner-up teams. He continued his playing career in college, attending NCAA Division II's University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Coon has been a certified USPTA teaching pro for the last 10 years in both St. Louis and the Mid-South region of Illinois, earning elite status in 2019. Coon has coaching experience at the high school level, coaching at Lutheran High School in St. Charles, Mo., and national Junior Teams in the past. He is heavily involved in the development and promotion of tennis in the midwest and served as the USPTA Illinois Vice President and a member of the USTA Midwest division.
Coon will replace Alex Covington and serve as the Director of Tennis at Millikin. Covington will be departing Millikin to take over as the Head Women's Tennis Coach at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
