Aviston School District 21 Board of Education met May 18

Aviston Elementary School District #21 Board of Education met May 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order—7:00 pm

a. Roll Call

a. Members present: Thole, Voss, Eversgerd, Kohnen, Toennies, Schulte, Strubhart

b. Members absent: None

c. Non-Members present: Superintendent Hamil, Principal Niemeyer, Amanda Beer, Jayne Arentsen, Alicia Renth, Kelly Kampwerth, Michael Kampwerth, Jordan Stiegman, Tammy Kuper, Jenna Schrage

2. Public Comment/Recognition of Visitors/Good News Report

a. Public Comment: None

b. Good News Report: The PTA did an excellent job in recognizing the AGS staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Golf and Track performed well at the State Meets and the Athletic Awards were well-attended.

3. Motion to Amend the Agenda:

4. Approval of Consent Agenda:

a. Approve Minutes of Regular April 20, 2022 Meeting

b. Approve Payment of Bills

c. Treasurer’s Report

a. Motion by Strubhart, second by Kohnen to approve the consent agenda items.

5. Superintendent’s Report

a. FY23 Enrollment Updates – Registration is ongoing and more accurate numbers will be gathered in June. Kindergarten enrollment is currently 58 students and PreK has enough available openings to seat all four-year-olds.

b. E-Rate/Technology Upgrades – The funding for expanding the WiFi hotspots is available and the district has committed to completing this project.

c. Financial Projections and Planning – A presentation was given by Superintendent Hamil to forecast the financial impact of adding additional teachers, undergoing a building expansion and methods of increasing revenue for the education fund.

d. Building Addition Planning – A review of the April 28 building committee meeting outcomes was presented. The committee recognizes the need of 6-8 additional classrooms and a gym and performance area. The committee asked FGM Architects to prepare plans for the additional facility requirements and Kings Financial updated the tax levy impact of various bond issues to fund a building project.

6. New Business

a. Approval of FY21 Audit/Annual Financial Report

a. Motion by Kohnen, second by Strubhart to approve the Annual

Financial Report for FY21 as presented.

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Toennies, aye; Schulte, aye; Strubhart, aye. None opposed. None absent.

b. Proposed FY22 Amended Budget/Set Budget Hearing

a. Motion by Thole, second by Kohnen to set the FY22 Amended Budget Hearing for June 15, 2022 at 7:00 pm.

b. All in favor, None opposed, None absent.

c. Annual HVAC Maintenance Agreement

a. Motion by Thole, second by Schulte to accept the HVAC Maintenance Agreement with Albers Heating and Air Conditioning as presented.

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Toennies, aye; Schulte, aye; Strubhart, aye. None opposed. None absent.

d. Bowling Team

a. Motion by Kohnen, second by Voss to establish a Bowling Team for Aviston Elementary School.

e. School Fees 2022-2023

a. Motion by Kohnen, second by Eversgerd to adopt the 2022-2023 school fees as presented.

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Toennies, aye; Schulte, aye; Strubhart, aye. None opposed. None absent.

f. Parent/Student Handbook Updates 2022-2023

a. Motion by Schulte, second by Kohnen to adopt the 2022-2023

Parent/Student Handbook changes as presented.

b. All in favor, None opposed, None absent.

g. Consolidated District Plan Adoption/Title Grant Application

a. Motion by Strubhart, second by Voss to adopt the Consolidated District Plan and authorize the beginning of the Title Grant application process. b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Toennies, aye; Schulte, aye; Strubhart, aye. None opposed. None absent.

h. Extracurricular Resignations

a. Motion by Kohnen, second by Strubhart to accept the resignation of Chase Henrichs as Head Boys Basketball Coach.

b. All in favor, None opposed, None absent.

i. Certified Staff Resignations

a. Motion by Thole, second by Kohnen to accept the resignations of Rose Wilken as 1st Grade Teacher and Hanna Barnes as 7th Grade Teacher.

b. All in favor, None opposed, None absent.

j. Consideration to Hire Certified Staff

a. Motion by Thole, second by Kohnen to hire Logan Niehaus as 1st Grade Teacher, Haley Markus as Kindergarten Teacher, and Jordan Stiegman as 7th Grade Teacher.

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Toennies, aye; Schulte, aye; Strubhart, aye. None opposed. None absent.

7. **Closed Session - Closed session may be used to discuss contract negotiations, employee issues and other items as deemed necessary by the board and as approved in 5 ILCS 120/2 of the Open Meetings Act.

a. Motion by Thole, second by Strubhart to adjourn the May 18, 2022 meeting at 9:18 pm.
